Metairie soil is heavy clay with organic matter. That holds water longer than sand, so cut back on watering frequency once the lawn establishes. Shaded yards need less water and a raised mowing height. Watch for chinch bugs and brown patch in the humid summer months. After a hard freeze (rare but real), give the grass time before deciding it is dead. Warm-season grasses usually come back in April.
