Bermuda grass is a low-growing, fine to medium blade grass with thick, lush growing habit. It has high temperature and traffic tolerance and quick recovery from wear and stress. Bermuda is the most durable grass we carry, used on residential homes, commercial properties, and athletic fields.
Bermuda is a warm-season grass native to the African savanna and now grown across the Southern United States as the standard turf grass for full-sun, high-traffic environments. It spreads aggressively by both stolons and rhizomes, which makes it dense once established and quick to fill in after damage. It needs full sun to thrive (6+ hours direct daily) and goes dormant in shaded areas. Bermuda is recommended for USDA plant hardiness zones 7 through 10, which covers all of South Louisiana. It is the dominant grass on golf course fairways, tee boxes, and football and baseball fields across the Gulf South.
In our experience. Bermuda is the right pick when you have full sun and a yard that takes a beating. Open subdivision lots, sports fields, daycares, commercial frontage. Tifway 419 is the standard, and we deliver it regularly to Marrero and the open Westbank lots. TifTuf is the drought-tolerant upgrade. Celebration is the fine-blade premium.

Water deeply once a week in the heat of summer, less often in spring and fall. Bermuda is the most drought-tolerant warm-season grass we carry. Mow at 0.5 to 1.5 inches with a sharp blade, more often than other grasses (every 5 to 7 days in peak growth). Fertilize 3 to 4 times during the growing season with a high-nitrogen turf fertilizer. Watch for spring dead spot in cool wet weather and Bermuda mites in dry stretches. Open-sun rebuild lots, especially in post-Katrina Chalmette, are where Bermuda performs best in our service area.
These are the primary Bermuda cultivars we sell. Each one performs well in South Louisiana conditions.

Yes. Bermuda spreads by both stolons (above ground) and rhizomes (below ground). This makes it fill in fast but also means it will encroach on flower beds and adjacent lawn areas. Use edging to contain it.
