Orleans Sod, Since 2014
Sod is cut the day before in most cases, loaded that evening, and dispatched first thing in the morning so it lands at your property the same day.
One pallet covers about 450 square feet. Order one for a small repair or twenty for a builder lot. No minimum past the first pallet.
St. Augustine, Zoysia, Bermuda, or Centipede. Pick based on your sun, soil, and drainage. Not sure? Ask on the quote call.
Greater New Orleans sits in USDA hardiness zone 9b, with humid summers, mild winters, and rainfall averaging 60+ inches a year. Soil is mostly alluvial clay, the same soil that built the Mississippi delta, which means most yards drain slowly and run on the heavier, denser side. Coastal humidity, the occasional hard freeze, and named storms shape what kind of grass actually holds up here.
St. Augustine is the dominant choice across the metro because of its shade tolerance and resilience under live oak canopies common in Uptown, the Garden District, and Old Metairie. Bermuda is the pick for full-sun lawns in newer subdivisions across Kenner and Harvey. Zoysia bridges both: fine-bladed, traffic-tolerant, and increasingly popular in family yards from Marrero to Chalmette. Centipede works well in lower-maintenance properties, especially in acidic-soil pockets across the West Bank and River Parishes.
If your yard had storm damage or a contractor stripped it during construction, we can deliver enough sod to redo the entire property and recommend the variety that fits your sun, soil, and drainage profile. Call 504-342-4424 to talk through it.
New Orleans is a consolidated city-parish on the Mississippi River in southeastern Louisiana. With an estimated population of 390,000+, it is the most populous city in the state and a major port and economic hub for the broader Gulf Coast region. The metro spans Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines parishes, plus St. Tammany on the Northshore and St. Charles, St. John, and St. James along the River Parishes corridor.
Decide on the grass type for your property, then measure the area to get the square footage. Most pallets cover about 450 sq ft, so divide by 450 to get the pallet count you need.

Several Greater New Orleans neighborhoods have poorly drained clay soil. Which grass handles the wet stretches best?

Both. You can order sod by the pallet and install it yourself, or book our crew for full installation including ground prep, grading, and post-install care guidance.
New Orleans and most of the Greater New Orleans area sits in USDA plant hardiness zone 9b. All four of our grasses (St. Augustine, Zoysia, Bermuda, Centipede) are well-suited to this zone, with long humid summers and mild winters. Bermuda and Zoysia handle hard freezes the best if a rare cold snap hits.
Wait two to three weeks after installation before the first mow, once the roots have knit into the soil. After that: Bermuda about once a week at 1 to 1.5 inches; Zoysia every 7 to 10 days at 1.5 to 2 inches; St. Augustine about once a week at 2.5 to 4 inches; Centipede every 10 to 14 days at 1.5 to 2 inches. Never remove more than a third of the blade in one mowing.
Zoysia is the most family-friendly pick. It is soft underfoot, recovers quickly from foot traffic, and handles partial shade. Bermuda is also a strong choice if your yard gets full sun and you want fast-establishing turf. For shady yards under live oak canopies, St. Augustine is the better fit.
Several Greater New Orleans neighborhoods sit on poorly drained clay soil with seasonal flooding. St. Augustine handles brief wet conditions better than the other three options because of its deep root structure and tolerance for humidity. For chronic wet spots, fix the drainage first; sod alone will not solve a standing-water problem. We can advise during your quote call.
Sod can be installed year-round in Louisiana, but spring through early fall (March through October) is the best window for establishment. Roots knit fastest when soil temperatures are 65 to 80 degrees. Winter installs work but establish slower. If you need a finished lawn by a specific date, we recommend ordering at least three to four weeks in advance for spring or fall slots.
